Our founder, David Mobley, was born in Rochester N.Y. but raised on the west side of Orlando, Florida. David graduated from a local high school (Jones High School) and shortly after graduating decided to fulfill one of his childhood dreams of joining the United States Marine Corps. David spent 4 years of active duty in the Marine Corps as an infantryman. While he served, he earned ribbons and medals which identified his exemplary service to his country and the Corps, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal (E-4) in 1990. After living in Orlando for over 30 years, he relocated to Atlanta Georgia in search of more opportunities and his calling in life. During his 8 years stay in Atlanta David worked for a freight company for 3 1/2 years to make ends meet. Slow work caused David to fall into hard times that spiraled down a temporary bout with homelessness. He described the experience as sobering and pondered on how he could prevent other veterans from going down that road as he did. Education was an option, so David enrolled at Atlanta Metropolitan State College in the summer of 2014 pursuing a degree in social work. After receiving an Associate of Science degree, David transferred to Georgia State University (GSU) where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Social Work degree. While attending GSU, he decided he wanted to focus his energy within the social work field on uplifting the homeless veteran population. During his internship at GSU, he had the opportunity to work with a nonprofit organization that provided transitional and permanent housing amongst other services for homeless veterans. Our owner used some of the funds from the sale of my home in Atlanta to fund the startup of this organization.
After graduation, he had another opportunity and honor to work with another nonprofit that provided many services for the homeless. As a case manager with Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), he was able to have hands-on experience and interaction with this population and acquired a wealth of knowledge in providing the resources and services that changed their situation for good. Now in a more familiar community, David plans to incorporate his knowledge, wisdom, and immense sense of empathy for well-deserving homeless veterans in Orlando and surrounding areas.
